Recovered spaces in Naples: library edition

Since September 2023, the association Il Giardino Segreto di Roccaromana has implemented an annual project aimed at young locals interested in professional training in library science. In the Solidarity project “Spazi Recuperati”, among the various forms of activity, the formation of a group dedicated to the self-construction and regeneration of furniture suitable for the library space was also planned.

The workshop appointments took place in June and July on a weekly basis with a group of young locals who participated in regenerating the wooden furniture.

While the workshops were held in the spaces of the former elementary school Bordiga in Naples, the final meeting with the installation of the furniture took place in the spaces of the Deledda Library in Naples, the final location of the furniture.

The workshop coach used the e-learning platform UPCYCLINGWASTE to explain the value of urban regeneration in public spaces, through the more general concept of up-cycling, and explored some woodworking techniques. The participants reached were about 10, enthusiastic about the collection of information that they will also use in their private sphere as young architects/architecture students or up-cycling enthusiasts.

The coach instead learned about the platform thanks to a previous urban regeneration project in Roccaromana, headquarters of the association to which he belongs and which has been collaborating for years with the Noi@Europe association.
